I would disagree with the original post on the transferring of domains from Aplus.net

I had a couple spare (misspelled)version of my main domain registered for a couple years with Aplus.net, and yes the sales calls did get annoying, but they did ok for holding my domains. When I finally got my act in gear last week to transfer the extra domain names to my "regular" provider, all I had to do was log in, change my domain password (their name for AUTHIFO) and then submit that along with the confirmation number to my normal host. Within a few hours the request was submitted to ICANN and 3-5 days latter the transfer had been completed. The entire process was quite painless. Just make sure you start the transfer AT LEAST 10 days prior to domain transfer freeze that occurs in the 30 days prior to domain renewal/expiration.

I'm in the midst of trying to transfer domains from Aplus - they keep sending me the same stupid email over and over, with incorrect information ("Just change your domain passwords, and use the password as your transfer code"). They eventually get around to giving me a false EPP key. It's been going on for DAYS.

Yep, kinda reminiscent of the late night call to Dan-Pentium-Bug about the processor bug. I am in the middle of exactly just exactly the same exact scenario, except for the ( ugh )

I hired another rack i found in my discussion group - looked to be more secure and informed. Started trying Friday night and dogged it off after a few hours because fa8298b8 ampersand gmail dot com was inserting cc-to's in the headers without me asking it to. Told everybody and went home and slept.

Saturday I work all day and nothing comes in - the domain name management software at what appears to be a commercial-grade hardware site comes back with errors and I ( out of time and having pumped adrenaline for about a day with only some code to show for it ) put up the following at the kayo help desk with high priority:

-------------------------------
I have a ticket open which the accouting department has replied to - tagged at low priority.

Twice I have tried to manage the domain name belvcomp.com and move it over to hostforweb because of inability of the other supplier to do it's job.

Friday, I started working on this and it all got fouled up - so I left it alone until Sat. As of Sun mid-day no one had replied on either end so I sent some emails and got asked by the other end something along the lines of here's your auth code: EPP key: *************** and you are on your own. Cease communications.

The transfer failed:

Errors occurred while processing your request. Please make the following corrections and resubmit..

This is an unsupported top level domain (TLD) for this process.
There are no valid entries in the Domains field.

So now I got my canoe cross-ways in the creek and am out of time - I need damage-control.
------------------------------

sensibility of domain names do not mean a great deal to me, I would rather use a random string, but when someone who is supposed to know what they are doing tells me to screw it to the wall and the new rack will not take the transfer authorization code, it just makes for a situation that leaves one wondering if the prior method was equally valid.
